Donegal House (Kaikōura)

Donegal-House-02a

Donegal House is establishing itself as a mecca for people travelling around the country in campervans because of its well appointed (and very reasonably priced) facilities.

We came across it for the first time on the very day that the current owners took over and it is thriving in their competent hands. Even on that first day, when systems and people were all new, we were warmly welcomed, well fed, and taken care of. Now with a bit more time under their belt we enjoyed seeing just how popular the place has become with locals and visitors alike.

The menu caters to a range of tastes and is reasonably priced. Our advice is to take a large appetite with you because the portions are very generous and assume you've put in hard day's physical work (or had a big day cycling or walking). Clem's chicken burger was of epic proportions. I had the macaroni cheese (as I did on our first visit) and it's the best I've ever had.

We enjoyed sitting outside watching the world go by amongst a very happy and mixed gathering of people from all walks of life and countries of origin.  We happily walked down the road to our accommodation (also a bonus).
