Brook Waimārama Sanctuary

The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary has been a labour of love for many volunteers over many years.
Their vision and hard work has led to the creation of something really special very close to the centre of Nelson - a place where people of all ages can experience abundant birdlife and celebrate the reintroduction of birds into an environment that is kept free of predators.
Recently kākā and tuatara have been introduced to the sanctuary and it's remarkable to be able to see both up close in their natural habitat.
There are challenging walks and walks suitable for families with young children.
The visitor centre is informative and the volunteers who staff it are friendly, helpful, and delighted to welcome people.
If you're visiting Nelson or if you live here, make sure you pay a visit to the sanctuary. It's well worth the entry fee.
