Te Hoiere/Pelorus Bridge (Marlborough)

When you're next driving between Whakatū (Nelson) and Te Wai Harakeke (Blenheim) take some time to stop at Te Hoiere (Pelorus Bridge/Pelorus River). The cafe there was a favourite stop for us for many years and has recently had a revival thanks to Ngāti Kuia.

There is now a lovely gallery and information space at Te Wāhi Tōpuni o Te Hoiere (Pelorus Campground) and an adjacent Rourou Tārawa (food truck) also run by Ngāti Kuia with menu items introduced in Te Reo Māori and English.

This is such a beautiful addition to a throughly picturesque spot and was a wonderful way to end Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori language week) after a 45-minute return walk (complete with two walks across the swing bridge!) on the nearby Circle Track. Throughly good for the soul!

Awaiting the start of the next leg of kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park
